What is STRESS?

If we look at the definition – Stress is a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances.

Second definition- “pressure or tension exerted on a material object”.

So, is the “Stress” really stress or just a Pressure? Because, pressure is not all bad, a healthy pressure can make us Efficient and Productive.

Now, if we honestly look within us, 90% of stress is caused due to our own fault (either through Ignorance or inaction/wrong action). Only 10% of the stresses are genuinely out of our control and due to others.

Let’s analyse what I have just said above:

We make choices in life and hence we are in a particular place/situation. If the outcome of our choices is not favourable to us then there is “Stress”. If the choice we made works in our favour, we are in a “Pleasant” state.

Most of the time, our bad choices are either ill-informed or due to Haste/Greed/Jealousy/Anger/lack of clarity etc. If we took time to understand our “Mind” and learned to control the mind, I can assure you, the choices would stop being bad and we would start getting desired outcome from our choices. This will make sure we do not have “Stress” that is unexpected. Now, there are pressures in our lives which should not be confused with “Stress”. For example, pressure at workplace, pressure to manage the finances, running a family etc. With the help of Ayurved and Yog, these pressures can be managed efficiently. How? Let’s take Yog first: If a person practices Yog and Pranayam (breathing exercises) regularly every morning or evening as per their convenience, they will surely develop very strong and balanced mind which helps them cope with the pressures of life and make good choices. Now lets look at how Ayurved can help: When we are “Stressed”, it has direct impact on our physical, mental and emotional health. This results into weakened Digestion, weakened Immune system, Rise in blood pressure, rise in inflammatory cells and so on. Taking some Ayurvedic herbs can counter such problems. E.g Chywanaprash, Tulsi, Brahmi, Ashwagandha, Shatavari, Triphala. So, we Yog and Ayurved, we can develop a strong Mind and Body which will prevent Stress in the first place and also help cope with the pressures of life efficiently.
